Secret No. 25: Women have two good weeks and two bitch weeks a month

Do you come with an instruction manual?

This post is for the men. Listen up, guys! At some point you’ve all felt that your woman is crazy and that she is overreacting to the most insignificant things. The truth is, you aren’t alone, and she isn’t crazy… you probably just had bad timing!

As a woman, I feel that I am a victim of timing. Sometimes, even my marriage falls victim to timing. Timing is everything and, unfortnately, there is only a 50/50 chance of having good timing when it comes to dealing with women. This is because women have two good weeks and two bitch weeks a month. The two bitch weeks are one week of PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) and one week of what I like to call MS (Menstrual Syndrome).

During the good weeks, everything’s good. The women know it, and the men know it. We are happy, calm, rational, understanding, and even willing to compromise. During the bitch weeks things get a little tricky. Our emotions run on constant rotation. This means that our feelings can change from happy, to sad, to irritated, to frustrated, to annoyed, to paranoid, to jealous, to angry, to happy about every 8 minutes. When confronted with a problem, our response is largely determined by the state of our emotions at that particular time. This has huge effect on our relationships with our boyfriends, husbands, and all of the men in our lives.

When it comes to relationships, a lot of issues are not real issues. Sometimes they just occur at bad times. Although women are victims of timing, it’s the men who really suffer from it. Here are some examples of how women handle certain situations depending on whether they are having a good or a bitch week.

Two good weeks a month:

If he forgets to call you to confirm your date time, you call him. Everyone is allowed to forget from time to time. He probably just got busy at work.

If he has to stay late at work for a meeting and can’t make it for dinner, you tell him that you’ll make dinner anyway and heat it up for him when he gets home. Work is important, and you realize that.

If he’s home watching TV when you get home from work, you think “Perfect!” You’re happy he’s home so you can make dinner for the both of you.

If he insists on watching a sports game when you come over, you keep yourself busy until he’s done. There are plenty of things you need to do and you knew the game was on anyway.

If he tells you he can’t see you tonight because he’s made plans with his friends, you tell him it’s no problem. You actually get excited that you can make plans with your friends for a girls-night-out.

Two bitch weeks a month:

If he forgets to call you to confirm your date time, you wait for his call until the last minute, checking your phone every minute. If he cared about your date he would’ve called hours ago! If he finally does call he’s going to hear about it. How dare he not call? Did he forget? How could anyone just forget to confirm plans? When you finally talk to him he’s going to know exactly what will happen if he ever forgets to call you again.

If he has to stay late at work for a meeting and can’t make it for dinner, you tell him that it’s unacceptable. You’ve already made dinner and it’s going to get cold. He knew you were going to make dinner and should’ve called before you started. You could’ve done something much more valuable with your time instead of making dinner that he can’t eat anyway.

If he’s home watching TV when you get home from work, you think “Bastard!” You were driving, in traffic, from work while he’d been resting on the couch. Now you have to make dinner? He should’ve had dinner waiting for you when you got home!

If he insists on watching a sports game when you come over, you freak out. How dare he watch sports when you come over? You didn’t drive to his place to sit around and wait for the game to end.
If he tells you he can’t see you tonight because he’s made plans with his friends, you tell him this is going to be a huge problem. You were looking forward to seeing him all day. Wasn’t he looking forward to seeing you just as much? Are his friends more important? Doesn’t he care about your relationship? If he goes to see his friends tonight he can forget about seeing you tomorrow night. Or the day after.

For women, being aware of their emotions is a good first step towards trying to control them. It’s very hard, however, to control your reactions during bitch weeks. As much as you may try to stay calm and think rationally, it is difficult to maintain your feelings for longer than 8 minutes at a time.

The best advice I can give is to encourage you not to make any decisions if you know you are having a bitch week. If you get upset by something that your man did, think about the bigger picture. Was it his first offense? Have you told him not to do that before? If you find yourself thinking that what he did was “obviously” wrong or that he should’ve known better, then you know it’s your frustration talking. Sometimes, it is better to let yourself get upset, then to get him in trouble.

As for men, try not to pass judgement on your woman if she freaks out once in a while. You should look at the big picture too. Does she always overreact? Is it her first offense? Sometimes, it’s better to let her win even if it might be your turn.

It’s always better to evaluate your relationship based on the good days. If you are having more good days then bad days, then you are already beating the odds.
